Govt to work for protection of Shom Pen tribe

Government has initiated efforts for the protection of the fast-depleting Shom Pen primitive tribe in the Nicobar islands and proposed granting it the status of "unique human heritage" of the country.

Panic gripped coastal areas of the city, especially among fishermen, following reports of a tsunami warning after a mild tremor here early this morning due to a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake off the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
