Railways can contribute 2 percent to GDP: Suresh Prabhu

The railways can contribute up to two percent to the gross domestic product (GDP), Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said on Sunday adding that he has asked the railway board to identify key issues and focus areas towards this end.

Industry body CII has suggested that the government should explore non-tax options for garnering revenue, while expressing hope that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley would keep a tight leash on spending in the Budget to keep fiscal deficit under control.
