International auction house Sotheby`s Wednesday announced the acquisition of a rare work of Vasudeo S. Gaitonde that would lead its Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art sale in New York March 19.

A newly discovered art piece - `Painting No. 1` of 1962 - by Indian artist Vasudeo S. Gaitonde has been sold for 698,500 pounds (about $1,093,000) at the Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art sale here.
