The base fare for autos has been raised from Rs 19 for the first two kilometres to Rs 25 while for every subsequent km travellers will have to pay Rs 8.

According to the government decision taken Wednesday, a commuter taking an auto will have to pay Rs 25 instead of the existing Rs 20 for the first two kilometres.

The government has already set up a committee comprising senior officials of the Transport Department to suggest hike in auto-rickshaw and taxi fares following persistent demands by various auto-rickshaw and taxi unions.
