Bharti Airtel, Axiata to merge their Bangladesh operations

Malaysia's Axiata Group Bhd, which owns about a fifth of mobile phone carrier Idea Cellular Ltd, does not plan to sell its stake in the Indian company, considering itself a long-term investor, Axiata's chief executive said on Wednesday.

Malaysia's telecom giant Axiata Group Tuesday reported 15 percent rise in its profit to 663 million Malaysian ringgit during the April-June quarter, mainly on account of higher contribution from its operating unit, including India's Idea Cellular.
