Floor area ratio hiked around rapid transit systems in Delhi

Urban Development Ministry on Tuesday almost doubled the floor area ratio for constructions around mass rapid transit systems like the Metro, albeit with some riders, to address the issues of traffic congestion and shortage of housing in Delhi.

Lamenting the poor state of urban planning in India where 40 million people are living in unplanned areas in the capital itself, Urban Development minister Kamal Nath Monday said government was looking at Transit Oriented Development as an option.
