Veg oil body SEA asks members to comply with food safety norms

With food safety regulator FSSAI stepping up surveillance on packed food items including edible oils, vegetable oils industry body SEA has asked its members to comply with all norms under the FSSAI Act to avoid any difficulties at later stage.

India's vegetable oil imports have risen by 18 percent to 10.67 lakh tonnes in December 2013, the second highest in a month since 1994.

Country's vegetable oils imports are likely to rise 7 percent to reach all-time high of 10.9 million tonne in 2012-13 marketing year ending October, pushed up by higher consumption, according to an expert.
