Ahmedabad: Addressing a youth rally here, Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate for 2014 General Elections Narendra Modi said on Thursday that people were tired of mere platitudes and predicted that the Congress would suffer a defeat worse then 1977.

Modi said that India was the youngest nation in the world but the government did not care about the youth. “If the government had thought about the youth of India, perhaps then the situation of the country would have been different. The BJP not only wants development of youth, but youth-led development,” he said.

“India is world's youngest country. Our dreams and aspirations are young as well. For UPA the youth is just a voter. But for the BJP youth is power,” he maintained.

Lashing out at the Congress-led UPA government, Modi said that the government had only made promises in the last 10 years but did not fulfil them. “The anger in the people is due to the atmosphere of hopelessness in the country,” he said and promised that the BJP has an intention to “work for the people.”

“Congress only makes false promises,” he said.

“For the first time in Indian politics the people have already made their decision before the elections have started. The upcoming Lok Sabha election will herald a new beginning for the people of India,” he opined.

Expressing his feelings, the Gujarat CM said, “It seems as if the people of India are fighting these elections. It is no longer about a party or a person.”

Once again Modi took a barb at those who had commented on his tea-seller background. “The leaders in Delhi are shocked to see a son of a tea seller questioning them. This is the reason why they target me,” he said.

Recently, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar had said that Modi would never become the PM of India and could only sell tea at AICC sessions.

“Personal achievement has never been important for me. I am committed to truth. You need people with vision who can change things for the better,” Modi said.

He also told the people that one should let the Congress do what they wanted to do as they had only few days left. “The punishment meted out to them would be worse than the one in 1977. The winds of change are blowing and this will turn into a tsunami. Congress can't save itself. Nation won't forgive it,” he said.

“The polls have brought a new hope for the people of India. This time it seems that the people of this country are fighting polls,” Modi told the youth.
