Jamshedpur: A strong wind accompanied by dust prevented JMM supremo Sibu Soren from launching his first election meeting on Saturday at Sarjamda and Gurma for his party candidate contesting from the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat.

As soon as Soren's chopper arrived at the venue, a strong wind accompanied the dust storm battered the area, preventing the pilot from landing, East Singhbhum district president of the JMM Ramesh Hansdah said.

Hansdah told PTI " we wanted to land the chopper at Sonari aerodrome but was denied permission as we did not have the scheduled landing permission".

Soren was left with no choice but to return to Ranchi, he said, adding, that the JMM Supremo was to address a public meeting at Gurma as well as Chakulia for party candidate, Niroop Mahanty, who was the ex-Vice-President of Tata Steel.

Hansdah said Soren, who along with his son and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren were scheduled to address a week-long public meetings across the district from today.

He said the father-son duo would visit the parliamentary constituency again tomorrow to address series of election meetings.
