Medininagar: Two primary school teachers of Palamau district on Tuesday alleged that they were beaten up by policemen who branded them as ultras.

Shailesh Oraon and Ram Pravesh Sharma, teachers of Nawadih Tenar Primary School, said that they were going on a motorbike to attend the engagement ceremony of their friend in Nawadih village in Palamau district on Sunday night.

In the complaint lodged with the Superintendent of Police YS Ramesh, the two alleged that personnel of the Dabra police picket intercepted the bike, took them into custody and beat them up for the whole night claiming they were members of the Trutiya Prastuti Committee.

The Trutiya Prastuti Committee is a breakaway faction of the CPI(Maoist) which is active in Jharkhand.

The SP said he directed Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar to investigate the incident and submit a report.

Sharma said his left ear-drum got damaged because of the beating.

The complaint said they were not spared even after they produced their identity cards and valid documents of the motorbike.

Following the intervention of the panchayat members concerned, the two were set free the next day, they said.
