Rain deficit in Kerala narrowed down to minus five per cent

Thiruvananthapuram: With monsoon becoming active again after a lull, rain deficit in Kerala has narrowed down to five per cent less for the season.

The state received 1620.1 mm rainfall against a normal of 1701.4 mm from June 1 to August 22, according to meteorological centre here.

Heavy rains lashed many parts of the state, particularly in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts since last night.

Low lying areas in many of these districts were flooded in the rain and a few rivers were also swelling. The district administration these has asked people to be vigilant.

Meanwhile, the weather centre has forecast heavy rainfall (not exceeding 7cm) to very heavy rainfall (exceeding 13 cm) in some places in the state and Lakshdweep till August 25.
