Udhagamandalam: About 500 kg of detonators used in quarries was seized on Tuesday from a jeep at Barliar checkpost, about 40 km from here and two persons taken into custody in this connection, police said.
The seizure was effected during a routine vehicle check, they said, adding the detonators were found packed in 20 boxes in the Kerala-bound vehicle.
Preliminary inquiries revealed the detonators were being transported from Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district to Wayanad in Kerala.
The two arrested included a man who had a license to deal and supply detonators in Wayanad and the jeep driver. However he did not have valid documents to transport them via Nilgiris district, they said.
