Nominations seeking Jayalalithaa`s re-election crosses 750

Chennai: Over 750 nominations were filed at the AIADMK headquarters here by partymen seeking re-nomination of Jayalalithaa as General Secretary, the top post in the party.

When the deadline for filing of nomination papers ended today, more than 750 party functionaries had filed papers on behalf of AIADMK chief besides Jayalalithaa herself.

Though Jayalalithaa's re-election is certain, for the fifth day today, party functionares ranging from ordinary members to Members of Parliament, State Ministers and MLAs thronged the party headquarters to file nomination papers.

Each nomination is accompanied by an application fee of Rs 25,000.

"The process of scrutiny and counting is on. When they finalise counting process of nominations filed on behalf of our revered leader it would easily cross 1,000 mark," a party leader said.

As per the calender of events for the poll announced by the party, Jayalalithaa would be declared elected uncontested on August 29, the auspicious day when Ganesha Chaturthi is celebrated.

Meanwhile, AIADMK release said the party has received a total of 2,467 papers seeking re-nomination of Jayalalithaa after the counting of papers were completed.

The party has received Rs 6.16 crore as fee for filing nominations, it said.
