Chennai: At least 11 were killed and several others feared trapped when a compound wall in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu collapsed on Sunday morning.
As per the eyewitnesses, the incident happened in the early morning hours when a newly built 20 feet compound wall of a godown collapsed adjacent to the huts of construction workers. The locals had raised the alarm first.
All the labourers, said to be from Andhra Pradesh, were working in a private godown.
While fire tenders have reached the spot and rescue operation is underway, a 19-year-old man has been rescued alive from underneath the debris. He was later taken to Stanley Hospital.
The incident occurred within days after an 11-storeyed building collapsed in Chennai in which the death toll shot up to 60.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha has formed a special investigation team to help Chennai building collapse probe. This special investigation team will be headed by Joint Police Commissioner.
