Dehradun: Moderate to rather heavy rains lashed most places in Uttarakhand, where many key routes continued to remain block due to recurring landslips, and five persons sustained injuries when a portion of their house collapsed in Haridwar district.

Though most places across Uttarakhand received light to moderate rains, a few places recorded rather heavy showers including Devprayag (54 mm), Tehri (50 mm) and Lansdowne (42 mm), the MeT department said.

Although partially opened near Patalganga after several days, the Badrinath highway remained closed at Maithana today due to landslips, affecting supplies to many places in Chamoli district, disaster management officials said.

BRO personnel are working to remove debris from the road with the help of heavy stone cutting equipment and JCBs.

In Luxor area of Haridwar, five members of a family, including three women, were injured last night when a portion of their house collapsed due to rains, officials said.

Villagers pulled them out of the rubbles and admitted to a hospital where their condition is stated to be out of danger, they said.
