Dehradun: Uttarakhand government today effected a nearly three-fold hike in the amount given as one-time relief to families which lose their homes in natural disasters, revising the amount from Rs 2,700 to Rs 8,000.
Making the announcement here today, Disaster Management Secretary Bhaskaranand said families which have either lost their homes or whose houses have been inundated this monsoon will be paid Rs 8,000 as one time assistance for buying clothes and utensils.
Every such family will get Rs 4,000 for buying clothes and an equal amount for purchasing utensils, he said. Earlier, as per norms set by National Disaster Relief Fund, a total of Rs 2,700 (Rs 1,300 for clothes and Rs 1,400 for utensils) were paid to each family in such cases.
Bhaskaranand said the move has been prompted by the loss of lives and property caused by rain related incident across the state this monsoon season.
He said the district magistrates have been asked to release the amount to affected families on revised rates immediately.
