Rajapaksa congratulates Modi, invites him on state visit

Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today congratulated Narendra Modi on his party`s massive victory in the Indian general election and invited him on a state visit. Rajapaksa telephoned Modi to congratulate him on his resounding victory and extended an invitation to the BJP prime ministerial candidate to visit the island-nation, President`s spokesman Mohan Samaranayake said.

Colombo: Sri Lanka today said it can trace people, believed to have disappeared in the aftermath of the nearly three-decade conflict with the LTTE, with cooperation from foreign governments, a top military official said.

Military spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said since the end to the conflict in 2009, a large number of disappearances and murders of individuals had been falsely attributed to the government.

Blast targeting police van injures 10 in Pakistan

Peshawar: At least 10 persons, including four police personnel, were injured today when a bomb planted on a motorcycle ripped through a police van in northwestern Pakistan. The improvised explosive device blast occurred near Mandan Chowk in Bannu district bordering north Waziristan agency when a police vehicle was passing through the area.

Indian arrested at Colombo airport for drunken behaviour

The man was trying to board a Mumbai-bound flight from Colombo when the airport staff complained over his misbehaviour.
