New Delhi: Indian shooters hogged the limelight on Day three of the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. Prakash Nanjappa gave India the first medal of the day by winning a silver in men`s 10m Air Pistol event. The 38-year-old scored 198.2 points to finish second behind Australia`s Daniel Repachloi, who won the event with a stunning score of 199.5. Nanjappa could have won the gold but lack of concentration in the end forced him to content with the silver.

Within a few hours of Nanjappa`s medal, Apurvi Chandela and Ayonika Paul win Gold and Silver medals, respectively in the women`s 10m Air Rifle event. Both the markswomen held their nerves till the very end to finish one-two. After eight long years India managed to win a gold medal in this category as the last gold came in 2006 CWG won by Tejaswini Sawant.

Chandela scored 206.7 points to finish at the top and provided India the second gold medal from the shooting arena after Abhinav Bindra`s swansong gold medal effort on Friday. Whereas, Ayonika Paul, who is just 21, had to be content with a silver.

Indian shooters didn`t stop there, and later in the day Rahi Sarnobat won another gold for India in Women`s 25m Pistol event as she beat compatriot Anisa Sayyed, who settled for silver. It`s certainly a memorable day for Indian shooters as they won five medals, comprises two Gold and three silver medals.

Judo: In Judo India only managed to win a sole medal on the third day which came late at night when Rajwinder Kaur beat Esther Akinyi Ratugi (KEN) to win bronze in Women's +78kg.

Hockey: Indian men`s hockey team thrashed Scotland 6-2 in Pool A match to win their second consecutive game of the tournament at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre. Rupinder Pal Singh, V.R. Raghunath, Gurbaj Singh and Gurwinder Chandi all scored for India, whereas, Nicholas Parkes and Kenny Bain of Scotland found the back of the net one time each.

Boxing:Indian pugilists also started of their CWG campaign on a wining note. In the Men`s Middleweight category star India boxer Vijender Singh beat Andrew Kometa of Kiribati to enter the pre-quarterfinals. Another Indian boxer Manoj Kumar also beat Moshoshoe with a scoreline of 3-0 in 64kg bout to give Indian a solid start. Talented pugilist Mandeep Jangra also won his first bout against Mozambique`s Augusto Mathule in the 69 kg welterweight division bout, however, Parveen Kumar of India lost to Corey Henderson of Scotland in the Superheavyweight (+91 kg) category to bow out.

However, with five more medals on Saturday (till IST 23:59), India took their overall medals tally to 15 with five gold, seven silver and three bronze medals and were placed fifth on the medals table.
