The Spanish club is the most successful in the European football in terms of having won the premier tournament a record nine number of times.
It all started when the tournament came into existence in 1955. In the final played between Real Madrid and French club Stade de Reims, the former emerged victorious 4-3.
Since then, the Los Blancos went on to dominate the tournament for four more years lifting the cup for a record five consecutive years. They won in 1956, 57, 58, 59 and 60.
After a drought of five years, they again brought home the cup in 1966. After the event was renamed UEFA Champions League in 1992, Madrid again went on to win it three more times the last of which came in 2002.
