Q SIR..Madam,
Wanted a piece of advice from you. My son is currently in class 12 in Abu Dhabi under the CBSE stream. We have an option of sending him to the US to pursue a degree in Engineering. Is it advisable to send him to the US for an undergraduate degree or should he do it in India and get his masters from the US ? Basically how do you value an undergraduate engineering degree from the 2 countries. Please let me know. Regards,
Shibu Chacko
A Dear Student... Hi,
In terms of an undergraduate degree abroad- I think the US gives an extremely strong base for a Masters in engineering in the future. If you can give your son the opportunity to get an undergraduate experience in the US I would definitely do that over an undergraduate degree in India. It would also depend on how your son performs in his class 12. In India there is a concept of the `best and the rest` where you have a very limited number of colleges. So if you don`t meet the cut offs for the top colleges it becomes difficult. In the US there is a vast breadth of institutions to choose from based on your son`s level. Each of these universities provide a great platform.
That being said, if finances are a concern then yes, stay in India for undergrad and do a master`s abroad.
