Idris Elba bought his own car at the age of 14

London: Actor Idris Elba says he bought himself a car when he was still a teenager without the knowledge of his parents.

The 41-year-old `Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom` star opened about his younger days while filming the BBC documentary, `Idris Elba: King Of Speed`, reported Contactmusic.

"By the time I was 14 I had an obsession with speed. I saved up and bought a car and drove it to school every day. My parent didn`t know I bought it," Elba said in the documentary.

"When you have facial hair at 14, people don`t question your age. I am not proud of my early exploits but for me it was where it all began," he added.
