Abhishek Bachchan, born in February 5, 1976, is the son of Bollywood mega-stars, Jaya Bhaduri and Amitabh Bachchan, brother to Shweta and the grandson of Harivansh Rai Srivastav, Hindu and Urdu poet, who wrote under the pen-name of Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
He attended the prestigious Jamnabai Narsee School and Bombay Scottish School, both in Mumbai; as well as Modern School in Vasant Vihar in Delhi. After completing school he went to further his studies in Aiglon College and went to the U.S. to study Business at Boston University but then left the course mid-way to follow the call of his acting genes and pursue a career in acting.
Despite coming from an elite family of superstars, Abhi, as he is fondly known as, did not get fame on a platter. He had to struggle tooth and nail to become one of the most promising actors in Bollywood.
He made his acting debut in the year 2000 with Kareena Kapoor in J.P Dutta’s ‘Refugee’, which was a great launch pad for him. But the film didn’t turn out to be a box-office success. Abhishek kept on signing new projects, but none of them proved to be a big hit. After a string of flops, the industry insiders dubbed Abhi a “dark horse”.
It was not until 2004, that the actor delivered a hit in the films ‘Dhoom’ and Mani Ratnam’s ‘Yuva’. His performance was finally notived and praised by both the critics as well as the audience. In 2005, he shot to fame with four consecutive hits: ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘Sarkar’, ‘Dus’ and ‘Bluffmaster’. His first 2006 release, the multi-starrer ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ (2006) was one of the highest grossing films of the year.
His first release in 2007 was ‘Guru’. He received much acclaim for his performance and the film emerged as his first solo hit. He also made a brief appearance in the multi-starrer ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ which was successful. His next release ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ released in June 2007. The film failed to do well in India but did better overseas especially in the U.K.
In summer 2008, Abhishek Bachchan along Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan, and other Indian film actors set out on the worldwide Unforgettable Tour. The tour covers 18 countries and 6 continents. Amitabh`s company AB Corp Ltd. along with Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt. Ltd are putting the concert together.
