Mumbai: Shiney Ahuja, who has been relentlessly fighting allegations of raping his maid in 2009, has been finding support from his spouse, Anupam all through out. The actor’s wife has said that the evidence that proves that her husband is innocent has been overlooked by the trial court.
Moreover, she also maintains that the case has a lot of ambiguity from the prosecutor’s end.
Shiney was released almost a month back and has been enjoying freedom of sorts. But his impending appeal against his seven-year jail term following conviction has been like a thorn in his flesh.
Anupam wonders why the evidence that proves Shiney is innocent is not being considered. The couple, while talking to a daily had once said that proofs like DNA tests and phone call records have not been accepted by the police. And on the contrary undependable data was handed over to the court.
While talking to the daily, Anupam said, “Why did the police not call for the records of calls admittedly made by the maid on the day and time of the alleged incident -- 3.20 pm to 3.40 pm on June 14, 2009. She had herself said that she was on the phone with a man she knew. The rape allegation would have been proved false, but the investigating officer from Oshiwar police station said he did not think it necessary to call for these records".
The wife of the troubled actor believes that the phone record of the maid is goon enough an evidence that should substantiate all false allegations.
"By suppressing the phone records, they were gagging the truth. If the government could fast track the rape trial, we are hoping that the appeal is also fast tracked," Anupam added.
