Mumbai: Superstar Salman Khan`s remarks on 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks courted fresh controversy for Bollywood’s enfant terrible and the latter quickly fire-fought the situation by apologising. Shiv Sena had demanded an apology and on Tuesday, the party chief Bal Thackeray said Salman and his family are very much patriotic.

In an editorial in Sena’s mouthpiece `Saamana`, Thackeray wrote, “There is no reason for us to harbour anger against Salman. His family is nationalist and patriotic in true sense.”

"Salman apologised after the furore in the country (over his remarks). He must have realised that the furore was not by the rich but by the common masses," he added, in an apparent jibe at Salman`s remarks about `hype` over the terror attacks which were ‘targeted at the rich’.

The editorial even said, “It is good that Salman was not adamant like Shah Rukh Khan”.

Earlier in February this year, Shah Rukh apologised for the controversy over his remarks favouring inclusion of Pakistani players in IPL, however he made it clear that it was not because Shiv Sena was not allowing his movie ‘My name is Khan’ to be screened at theatres in Maharashtra.

"Salman`s family is patriotic and it is with this responsibility that he should speak and avoid talking on anything but movies," the editorial concluded.

Salman Khan had come under fire for claiming during an interview to a Pakistani channel that the 26/11 attacks were hyped because the "elite" were targeted. He had later apologised, saying he did not mean to hurt anyone`s sentiments and patriotic emotions.

He even announced he will delete his Twitter account too.
