Mumbai: Shiney Ahuja was granted bail of Rs 50,000 last week by the Bombay High Court and was released on Tuesday. The actor, who has been convicted of raping his 20 year old maid back in 2009, has been slapped seven years imprisonment by a fast track court.
The actor had challenged the conviction in the Mumbai High Court. In his appeal, the troubled actor had stated that there was no definite proof to hold him guilty of ‘‘sexual intercourse, much less rape``. His wife Anupam, who has been besides him thru thick and thin since he was dragged into this controversy, has stood as the surety for her husband.
Shiney finally gets to breath a sigh of relief and he can now stay in his Mumbai house. But he has been granted the bail on the grounds that he would not leave the country.
