Ranbir Kapoor is the son of yesteryear superstars Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and brother of Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. He is the great grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor, and the grandson of actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor. He did his schooling from Bombay Scottish High School and graduated from Lee Strasberg Institute, New York.
Before becoming a fulltime actor Ranbir has worked as Assistant Director, first under RK Banner and then along with Sonam Kapoor he assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the film ‘Black’.
In 2007, Ranbir made his acting debut with Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’. Ranbir Kapoor is currently filming for Siddhart Anand’s ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ (2008) as well as Rajkumar Santhosi’s ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ opposite Katrina Kaif.
Ranbir had a lead role in the Prakash Jha`s ensemble movie `Rajneeti`(2010) in which he received critical acclaim. But his shot to fame came with `Rockstar`. His role as the tragic rockstar Janardan aka Jordan was a cult among his fans.
`Barfi` by Anurag Basu was again a big point in Ranbir`s life. Starring opposite Priyanka Chopra, his character of a deaf and dumb but charming guy from Darjeeling was well received and the film was a major hit in 2012.
His next movie is `Besharam` in which he appears with Father and Mother Rishi and Neetu Kapoor.
He is also scheduled to appear in Anurag Kashyap`s next `Bombay Velvet in 2014.
