Shahid Kapoor’s father is actor Pankaj Kapur of ‘Karamchand’ fame and his mother is actress and classical dancer Neelima Azeem. His parents got divorced when Shahid was just three.
After the divorce of his parents, he usually lived with his mother whilst he also shared a good relationship with his father and stepmother Supriya Pathak. Shahid studied first at Gyanbharati in Delhi and later at Rajhans Vidyalaya in Mumbai.
As a child, Shahid starred in the ad for Complan along with Ayesha Takia.
When he was 18, he landed in the commercial for Pepsi which starred Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee. He also starred in a music video for the band Aryans. He is a trained dancer, and recieved his training from famed dancer, Shiamak Davar. He was later seen in Subhash Ghai`s film ‘Taal’ (1999) as a background dancer in the song Kahiin Aag Lage Lag Jawe.
Shahid finally landed a leading role in Ken Ghosh`s ‘Ishq Vishk’ (2003). The film also starred Amrita Rao and MTV VJ Shenaz Treasurywala. Shahid received many accolades for his refreshing performance in the candy floss romantic flick. The film was a BO success and he received many awards.
After achieving success for his debut, he went on to deliver critically acclaimed performances in films like ‘Fida’ (2004) and ‘Shikhar’ (2005). Shahid first box office success came with the multi-starrer, ‘36, China Town’ (2006). He co-starred with Amrita Rao in Sooraj R Barjatya`s ‘Vivah’ (2006) which was a blockbuster.
Shahid continued his line of BO successes with Imtiaz Ali’s romantic comedy, ‘Jab We Met’ (2007), opposite Kareena Kapoor, proved to be a major success both in India and the UK.
Shahid’s latest release, Aziz Mirza`s ‘Kismat Konnection’, opened to good reviews and box office collections. Shahid is currently working on Ahmed Khan`s ‘Paathshala’.
