Diwali decoration items

Toran and door hangings

Toran is a symbolic string traditionally intertwined with mango tree leaves and is generally hung on the entrance door to ward off evil. In India, torans are a regular feature during festivals and they are made of various decorative items to enhance the look of the house during Diwali. Torans made of flowers, beads, bells, glass and cloth can be used as a gesture to welcome Goddess Laksmi on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. So buying a toran is a must this festive season.

Earthen Diya

Deepawali or `Deepon ki aavali` (exhibition of lights) signifies the end of darkness. Diyas are mandatory and Diwali celebrations are unimaginable without diyas. Earthen diyas come in various shapes and sizes and their aesthetic beauty is matchless. Nowadays, there are designer diyas made of metals that are beautifully decorated. But earthen diyas are incomparable. You can paint these diyas in various colours of your choice to add that personal touch to festive decoration.

Candles

Colourful candles and earthen wax diyas are hugely popular during Diwali. Candles with dried flower petals that have an exotic aroma make a perfect item for Diwali decoration. You can also buy floating candles and put them in a glass bowl full of water to add that magical touch. Use of earthen bowls is also a good idea. Add different flower petals to this arrangement. The sight of ignited aromatic candles afloat with flower petals adds great charm to the festive season.

Kandils or lanterns

Lanterns made of kite paper complete your Diwali decoration to the perfect T. These are cheaply available and add grandeur to your house. Instead of buying those Chinese lanterns with dragons printed on them, go for more traditional ones that will compliment your toran and your diyas. Hanging them in the balcony will not only grab eyeballs but also add to the beautification of your home.

Rangoli

Putting an elaborate Rangoli with vibrant colours at the threshold of your house will bring in prosperity as it’s the best way to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Rangolis not only look beautiful but they also bring in good luck and wealth. You can place diyas around and at the center of the rangoli to enhance its appeal.

Wall hangings

Wall hangings will help you balance your decoration for Diwali by making your walls look attractive. There are a variety of traditional wall hangings available in the market. You could either go for terracotta or cloth wall hangings. Handicrafts made of cane and bamboo shoots can also make brilliant wall hanging items. Just make sure the kind of wall hangings you choose are in sync with the overall decoration.

Flowers

Flowers form an integral part of our lives for they are used for all occasion irrespective of the magnitude of celebrations. This Diwali, you can try your hands at something new. Take an earthen or a brass bowl which is big enough to place it in the centre of your drawing room. Arrange different colours and varieties of flower and make creative designs out of it. Flowers make the ambience of the room serene and calm. Amidst sounds of fire crackers, the flower decoration will make you feel calm and serene.

LED lights

These electric lights add contemporary look to the Diwali decorations. They are available in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes. These can be hung on window panes and can even be highlighted in your pooja room. Lights that twinkle at regular intervals are very easily available and come at pretty affordable prices. Grab your string of LED lights for sure this festive season.

Shubh Labh and the Swastik symbols

Shubh Labh and Swastik symbols made of terracotta, glass and cardboard look really nice on the main door of your house. These are signs of good luck and prosperity. You could even draw the symbols with your hand by mixing kumkum with water.

crousel

Ganesh and Lakshmi idols

Ganesh is symbolic of Shubh (meaning good) and Lakshmi represents Labh (Profit). You can place an idol of Lakshmi and Ganesha to her left in your pooja room. Images of the Goddess and the Lord in your house bring peace and prosperity.
