Kishore Kumar – Madhubala

One of the most controversial and eccentric marriage of the yesteryears was that between Kishore Kumar and Madhubala. When Kishore Kumar proposed to an ill Madhubala, he was a married man and she about to leave for London for her treatment. Kishore Kumar’s parents were not ready to accept his marriage with a Muslim woman, and they never considered his first marriage with Ruma Guha Thakurta null and void. The marriage between Kishore Kumar and Madhubala lasted for nine years till the latter succumbed to her illness in 1969.

Vinod Khanna – Kavita

In 1971, Vinod Khanna married Geetanjali and subsequently had two sons with her. Their sons Rahul Khanna and Akshaye Khanna are both well known faces in the Hindi Film Industry. Vinod Khanna’s decision to become a disciple of Osho and his resultant shift to Osho’s Commune in the US led to a considerable amount of friction in his domestic life. And the absence of Khanna from his family led to the divorce of the couple. In 1990, Vinod Khanna married Kavita, and the two have a son Sakshi, and daughter Shraddha.

Kamal Haasan – Sarika

Kamal Haasan’s marriage with danseuse Vani Ganapathy was a much-subdued affair. The two were wedded in 1978. The marriage lasted for ten long years and the couple then split once Kamal Haasan began dating Sarika. The relationship between Haasan and Sarika had been explored from every angle possible, and the couple lived together from 1988 till the birth of their second child. From his second marriage, Kamal Haasan has two daughters, Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan.

Shabana Azmi – Javed Akhtar

Javed Akhtar, the noted lyricist and poet whose works have kept the Hindi Film Industry entranced for a long time now, is now married to actress Shabana Azmi. Javed Akhtar’s first marriage was with Honey Irani, and he has son Farhan Akhtar, who is a renowned actor in the country, and daughter Zoya who is a successful filmmaker. After Javed Akhtar’s divorce with Honey Irani, the poet married Shabana Azmi.

Boney Kapoor – Sridevi

Film producer Boney Kapoor was married to Mona Shourie Kapoor when the breathtaking Sridevi stepped into his life. What ensued is a tale of love, marriages, and betrayal – or so they say. From his first marriage, Boney Kapoor has son Arjun who recently forayed into the Hindi Film Industry and daughter Anshula. Boney Kapoor and Mona Kapoor never went through a proper divorce, and the latter raised her children in Boney’s parents’ house. In 1996, Boney Kapoor married Sridevi, and the couple has two daughters, Jhanvi and Khushi. Boney Kapoor’s first wife passed away in March 2012.

Karisma Kapoor – Sunjay Kapoor

In 2003, after Karisma Kapoor’s engagement with Abhishek Bachchan fell apart, the actress went on to marry Sanjay Kapur, the CEO of Sixt India. Sanjay was then married to designer Nandita Mahtani, and he married Karisma while in the process of getting a divorce from his first wife. Karisma’s marriage to Sanjay resulted in her taking a sabbatical from films, and she settled in Delhi with her husband. The couple has two children. Karisma’s return to the Hindi Film Industry was a much-hyped affair. Though her comeback venture ‘Dangerous Ishhq’ couldn’t create many ripples at the box office, Karisma’s performance was deeply appreciated. Now, rumour has it that the actress and her husband might be on the verge of a separation.

Shilpa Shetty – Raj Kundra

In November 2009, millionaire Raj Kundra tied the knot with the beautiful Shilpa Shetty in what was a true fairytale wedding. The bride and groom were inseparable from each other, and they now are the proud parents of a two day old boy. But everything was not always so glittery for the two. Shilpa Shetty is Raj Kundra’s second wife, and began dating her after he separated from his first wife Kavita. With Kavita, Raj has a daughter. Rumours went viral in a matter of few days and many held Shilpa responsible for the split in Raj-Kavita’s paradise. Later, however, the two ex-spouses did clarify that Shilpa had nothing to do with Raj’s split.

Aamir Khan – Kiran Rao

In 1986, Aamir Khan married Reena Dutta, who had a small part in his film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’, and later assisted him during the production of ‘Lagaan’. In 2002, Aamir filed for a divorce, thereby ending his 15 year long marriage with Reena. Their two children, Junaid and Ira, reside with their mother after she won their custody following the divorce. In 2005, Aamir married Kiran Rao, who was an assistant director to Ashutosh Gowarikar during the production of ‘Lagaan’. The couple has a son named Azad Rao Khan.

Saif Ali Khan – Kareena Kapoor

Though the much anticipated marriage between Chhote Nawab Saif Ali Khan and the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor is yet to turn into reality, the two are always seen by each other’s side. In October 1991, Saif Ali Khan tied the knot with a much-older Amrita Singh, and had two children with her – son Ibrahim Ali Khan and daughter Sara Ali Khan. Later, in 2004, Saif and Amrita called off their 13 year long marriage. In 2007, Saif began dating Kareena Kapoor, and the couple went public with their relationship in 2009. Saif has time and again spoken about his relation with Kareena, and emphasized that marriage would not necessarily change anything – it would simply be a stamp of validation. However, according to the grapevine, the two are supposed to get married this year.

Dharmendra – Hema Malini

In 1954, at the age of 19, Dharmendra got married to Prakash Kaur, his first wife. Dharmendra’s second marriage happened after his blockbuster ‘Sholay’ was lapped up by the public, and the on-screen pair of Veeru and Basanti embraced each other in holy matrimony off screen too. Dharmendra supposedly fell in love with Hema Malini on the sets of ‘Sholay’, despite having done several films before. However, Dharmendra maintained both his marriages, and had to even convert his religion in order to be able to do the same. From his first marriage, Dharmendra has sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol – both of whom are recognizable names in the Hindi Film Industry, and daughters Vijeeta and Ajita. From his marriage to Hema Malini, the veteran actor is blessed with daughters Esha Deol – who too, is a known face in the film industry, and Ahana Deol.
