Fashion Faux Pas at the Oscars over the years

All that went wrong...

Big events like the Oscars, Grammys and BAFTA give the opportunity to celebrities to flaunt their figures and let the world know about their impeccable style statements. While some make good use of it, others become the laughing stock due to their non-adherence to ‘Sense and Sensibility’.

Take a look at the fashion disasters at the Oscars over time.

Cher

Cher`s choice of outfit at the Oscars in 1986 was an unfortunate combination of cut-out material, but the most memorable piece of her ensemble was the over-the-top porcupine-like head dress.

Celine Dion

Celine Dion, who was still basking in glory of the success of ‘Titanic’, donned a plain awful outfit at the 1999 Oscars. The ensemble was neither avant-garde nor the ‘F’ of fashionable, and looked disturbingly akin to a satin night suit.

Bjork

Bjork’s swan dress at the Oscars in 2001 was completely outrageous and unbelievably weird. It looked as though instead of coming for the Oscars, she wanted to accompany the swans for a little chit-chat and swim later.

Faith Hill

Faith Hill, who ranked among the best dressed women at this year’s Grammys, looked as though she had walked out of a rainbow during the 2002 Oscars. Confused among the colours she really wanted to wear to the event, Faith seemed to have asked her designer to incorporate all the colours in just one dress.

Sally Kirkland

Sally Kirkland sashayed around the red carpet in 2007 in one of the worse outfits anyone might have ever seen. The dress, which was primarily black, had everything oddly-shaped but the worst part was the ribbons attached to it. The actress was waving her multi-coloured, wide ribbon-type things all over the red carpet, which was pretty disturbing.

Uma Thurman

Uma Thurman, who was just hot off ‘Kill Bill’ box-office success in 2004, probably wanted to make an equally splashy statement on the red carpet but unfortunately her fashion fight failed miserably, making the actress look like a wrapped gift with a blue ribbon.

7. Demi Moore

Demi Moore, who has since left wardrobe choices to the pros, designed her own costume for the 1989 Oscars - a half torn skirt, bicycle shorts and a bustier. Thankfully, Demi reverted back to acting and did not design any more clothes because the only one she designed looked hideous and went down history as one of the worst dresses ever.

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg, who hosted the Academy Awards in 1994, wore an unflattering gown to the event in 1993. The bright coloured gown looked more suitable for a magician than an actress.

Lizzy Gardiner

Lizzy Gardiner donned a dress made out of 254 American Express Gold Cards to the Oscars in 1995. It looked as though Lizzy had either robbed a bank at gunpoint or had run out of space to keep her innumerable Gold Cards.

Tilda Swinton

It looked like Tilda Swinton wore velvet garbage bags to the Oscars in 1995 as she had nothing else to drape herself in.
