Kajol: Superhits Through The Years

crousel

Happy Birthday Kajol!

Best known as the ‘unconventional’ actress of the Hindi film industry, Kajol has to her credit the rare honour of being the actress who has won the Filmfare Best Actress Award the most number of times – a record that she shares jointly with her late aunt Nutan. After delivering several blockbusters, the actress got married to Ajay Devgn, and took a sabbatical from films in 2001, only to come back with a bang in 2006. With her ‘Fanaa’, her first film after returning back to the industry, she clinched the Filmfare Best Actress Award. As the gorgeous actress turns a year older, here’s taking a look at some of her most memorable films.

Baazigar

As the young and naïve Priya Chopra, Kajol delivered a performance that was lauded by all. ‘Baazigar’, the 1993 thriller, was directed by Abbas-Mustan and explored the journey of a man who leaves no stone unturned in avenging his father’s death. Apart from Kajol’s exceptional performance, the film helped catapult Shah Rukh Khan in the league of the best actors of Bollywood.

Yeh Dillagi

Adapted from the Hollywood film ‘Sabrina’, ‘Yeh Dillagi’ was what earned Kajol her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination. The actress was paired across Saif Ali Khan in the movie, and the Yash Chopra camp made sure that they tapped their actress’ best. As Sapna, the Saigal family’s driver’s daughter who dreamt of riches and affluence, Kajol delivered a spectacular performance.

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

With ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, a cult classic was born. Every girl in the country dreamt of their own Raj Malhotra and every guy wanted to have a Simran Singh as their pretty bride. The film was Aditya Chopra’s directional debut and cooked up tsunamis in the hearts of youngsters who believed in that four-lettered miracle called ‘love’. The iconic film won Kajol her first Filmfare Best Actress Award and helped her create an enviable niche in the Hindi film industry.

Gupt

‘Gupt’ was a film that had Kajol essay a role that the actress hadn’t done before. As Isha Diwan, Kajol performs the role of a person who is obsessed with her lover – and doesn’t fall short of killing anybody who might pose an obstacle on her path to get her lover. With the role of Isha Diwan, Kajol redefined her acting capabilities. She proved to her detractors that she could play any role whatsoever – and play it with spectacular calibre. ‘Gupt’ earned Kajol her first and only Filmfare Award for the Best Performance in a Negative Role.
