Guest call

First things first, make a precise list of all the people you want to invite at the do and call them up days in advance so that there are no last minute cancellations. Preparing a guest list will also help you in planning the menu. After all none of us would ever want to deal with food wastage, or worse, food shortage?

Clothing

Unlike Diwali, which is all about getting dressed to kill (or shine), deciding a Holi dress code could be tricky because the latter is about getting down and dirty (PS: no double meaning here). White clothing works well for a Holi do. But to add fun to the party look, you can ask your guests to rev-up their plain white outfits by wearing fresh gajra or flowers in hair and the men can wrap a string of flowers around their wrist.

Food

No party is a hit without finger-licking food and when it comes to arranging food for Holi, make sure you have traditional recipes like gujiya, ladoos, papadand bhang rich thandai in ample quantities. Also, you can add in dahi bhallas, pakoras and any other tasty dish for snacking. Besides that, if the party headcount is more than 10, thinking about roping in a professional food server can be helpful.

Let the music play

It goes without saying that music is the soul of any Holi party. There’s nothing better if you can afford to hire a DJ to make the party crowd groove to foot tapping beats. Otherwise, buy some music CDs of Holi dance numbers and let the music play (on your audio system).

For a wholesome splash of colours, think about purchasing organic gulaal. And just to make sure that the wild spirits don’t feel let down, do include pakka colors too. Also, you can make the whole thing more fun by putting inflated water filled tub in the play area where the guests can jump in for a hearty Holi fun. Even a rain dance, water balloons and fancy pitchkaris could earn you more brownie points.
