Kal Ho Na Ho

‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ (2003) was a multi starrer film based in New York City on the lives of Indians who live abroad. It was directed by Nikhil Advani, produced and co-written by Karan Johar. The film had amazing music that made top of the charts. It starred Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan and Saif in the lead roles. It was a romantic comedy with an intense emotional angle. Saif played the role of a gujju friend whose in love with Naina (played by Priety Zinta) but she was in love with Aman (played by SRK).

Hum Tum

‘Hum Tum’ (2004) was a romantic film, directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra. It starred Saif opposite dusky B-town actress Rani Mukerji in the lead roles. The film was based on the encounters of the two main characters, who after a couple of meetings over the years become friends and finally fall in love. Saif played the role of a fun loving spoilt brat in the film to later evolves into a more serious person but still continues to have his humorous streak. He won a National Film Award for Best Actor for the film as well.

Salaam Namaste

‘Salaam Namaste’ (2005) was a rom-com flick based on the life of two young people who meet each other and fall in love. They have a sizzling chemistry and they agree to move in together and begin a live-in relationship in order to get more time to spend with each other. The film has brilliant music and won hearts for the young, crisp and fun script. However the couple face their share of issues including unplanned pregnancy of the female lead character. The film was directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra.

Parineeta

‘Parineeta’ (2005) was a musical film adaptation of a Bengali novel, directed by Pradeep Sarkar. The film starred Sanjay Dutt, Saif and Vidya Balan in the lead roles. Saif played the role of a lover for Lolita played by Vidya Balan. He hates Girish (played by Sanjay Dutt who is the prospective groom for Lolita. In the end he begins to hate himself for turning to a cold and bitter person.

Omkara

‘Omkara’ (2006) is an Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Othelo’. It was directed and co-written by the veteran filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj. The film proved to be a turning point in Saif’s career. He played the role of ‘Langda Tyagi’ in the film, the right hand man of the leading character ‘Omi’ played by Ajay Devgn, he played a negative role in the film. The film won many awards at international film festivals as well as three national awards.

Ta Ra Rum Pum

‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’ (2007) was a romantic flick that later became a family story. It starred Rani Mukerji and Saif in the lead roles. It was directed by Siddharth Anand. In the film Aif played the role of a formula one race car driver, a young man with a successful career, who later meets an accident which affects his financial and personal life. But he emerges again from all the down rides and restores his family life, financial situation and happiness.

Love Aaj Kal

‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009) was modern love story with many twists and turns, and complications created in it by modern youngsters who are commitment phobic or too career focused. It dealt with two parallel love stories one set in the 80’s and other of the modern times. It was directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Saif himself. Saif played a double role in the film, one as a passionate lover from 80’s who weighed lover over other things and his other role was that of a modern young man of now world who weighed other things over love and marriage.

Kurbaan

‘Kurbaan’ (2009) is a Bollywood film directed by Rensil D’Silva and produced by Karan Johar. It was a film set against the backdrop of global terrorism. It starred Saif and Kareena in the lead roles. In the film, Saif played the role of a terrorist who is a part of this under cover syndicate of people who are based in the US with intent of carrying a terrorist attack. The film had a controversial story line and got a lot of critical acclaim as it dealt with a delicate subject.

Aarakshan

‘Aarakshan’ (2011) is recently released Prakash Jha film. It is a socio-political drama based on the controversial policies of the caste based reservations in government jobs and educational institution. The film made a lot of news as its subject centred on a very controversial subject. Saif played a role of a Dalit student in the film who later becomes a teacher.
