London : Established novelists Hilary Mantel and Gerad Woodward have been shortlisted with four other writers for a British short story prize.
The nominees for The Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award also include American Anthony Doerr, Chinese-American Yiyun Li, and Britons Will Cohu and Roshi Fernando.
The award — judged by writers including AS Byatt and Will Self — is worth 30,000 pounds ($48,245), and is billed as the most valuable prize for short stories in the world.
The winner will be announced at an awards dinner on April 8.
