London: A first edition of George Orwell`s classic `1984, found in a charity shop by a bargain hunter, is all set to go under the hammer in Australia.

The rare edition is estimated to fetch several thousand dollars and will be auctioned this weekend. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to Lifeline, an Australian crisis support hotline, Contactmusic reported.

The hardback book was printed in 1949. It was picked out by volunteer Paul Hol out of a heap of literary donations at a charity store in Wollongong.

Only 25,000 copies of 1984 were printed in the first run by publishers Secker and Warburg, making it a collector`s item.
