Allah ke Bande

The part of an obscure film called ‘Waisa Bhi Hota Hain Part II’, this song shot to prominence with its ‘different’ appeal. To ears which were accustomed to the ghisa-pita music of Indian films, ‘Allah ke Bande’ sounded exceedingly unique.

Saiyyan

By now having acquired the status of a cult classic, Kailash Kher’s ‘Saiyyan’ was one song which was the story of every pining heart. Along with his band ‘Kailasa’, Kher created pure magic out of music. A blend of Sufi, folk and pop, the song instantly featured on people’s playlists, and has perhaps retained its position there ever since!

Ya Rabba

AR Rahman’s music and Kailash Kher’s voice clicked with listeners as soon as the film ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’ made its debut on screens. ‘Ya Rabba’ was the cry of every dejected soul, of every heart that had lost a beloved. The song, for most people, had a cathartic effect!

Teri Deewani

When Kailash Kher formed his band with musician brothers Paresh Kamath and Naresh Kamath, they weaved their first album, and named it ‘Kailasa’. ‘Teri Deewani’ from the album was elixir for ears which pined for a different sort of music. It had the hues of Sufi and folk, and a hint of pop, and the song has been listeners’ favourite for a long duration.

Tere Naina

Kailasa’s second album, ‘Jhoomo Re’, was loved by people. It might not have received the amount of appreciation that the band’s first album did, but several songs were lapped up by people. ‘Tere Naina’, again, is a song that doesn’t deserve being missed!

Tu Jaane Na

The film ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani’ received even more recognition, thanks to the song ‘Tu Kya Jaane’. Apart from Atif Aslam’s and Javed Ali’s versions, Kailash Kher’s reprise of the song struck a chord with innumerable listeners.

Kaisi Hain Yeh Udaasi

Kailash Kher’s soft yet strong number from the film ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’, for a long time, was the undeclared anthem of almost every broken heart. Along with Sukanya Purkayastha, the song ‘Kaisi Hain Ye Udaasi’ had a huge impact on people and stayed on music charts for a considerable amount of time.

Chaandan Mein

The title track of Kailasa’s third album, ‘Chandaan Mein’, touched the hearts of people. Kailash Kher’s magical voice did its job again, and his band helped him craft the piece to perfection.

Tu Kya Jaane

After three albums, Kailasa tweaked their image from a serious one to a more fun-oriented one. Their fourth album, ‘Rangeele’, opened to good reviews from listeners, and the song ‘Tu Kya Jaane’ created a furore among youngsters. Sung by Kailash Kher and the bassist of Kailasa, Naresh Kamath, the song is mellifluous on the one hand, and has elements from rock music on the other. Coupled with it is the beautifully picturised video.
