Mother’s Day: Bollywood songs dedicated to Moms!

The priceless mother-child relation!

The world – and life, as we know it – would have been unimaginable without them. Mothers, goes without saying, are the most precious gift that humankind has been gifted with. This Mother’s Day, we pick five songs from Hindi films that have immortalised the relation between a mother and her child.

Meri maa (Taare Zameen Par)

Picturised on Darsheel Safary, this soft number from ‘Taare Zameen Par’ can leave anyone with tears trickling down their eyes. A lovely song, ‘Meri Maa’ is sung by Shankar Mahadevan and won many awards at events the year the film hit the theatres.

Ae maa teri surat (Daadi Maa)

Probably the most famous of all songs on mothers, ‘Ae maa teri surat’ is one that beautifully portrays the emotions a mother is capable of invoking in one. The song featured in the 1966 film ‘Daadi Maa’.

Mumma (Dasvidaniya)

The Vinay Pathak-starrer ‘Dasvidaniya’, apart from winning unfathomable adulation, won the hearts of the audience with the song ‘Mumma’. The bond between a mother and a son is wonderfully etched out during the course of the song, and yet again reminds all the importance mothers have in our lives!

Tu kitni achhi hai (Raja aur Runk)

In the voice of Lata Mangeshkar, this ode to motherhood has been loved by one and all. ‘Tu kitni achhi hai’ featured in the 1968 film ‘Raja aur Runk’. With lyrics penned by Anand Bakshi and music by the legendary duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, this song is sure to leave one teary-eyed!

Luka chhupi (Rang de Basanti)

Sung by the unparalleled Lata Mangeshkar and ace musician AR Rahman, ‘Luka Chhupi’ made many hearts melt with its poignant rendition of a mother-son’s tale. While the film ‘Rang de Basanti’ garnered immense critical acclaim, ‘Luka Chhupi’ trotted its way up the most-loved of all songs’ lists!
