They say stardom makes you giddy. Stardom also ensures that you get right kind of attention from the right kind of people. And women…women swoon around you. Superstar Tom Cruise has been the sweetheart of millions for more than three decades now. The man with a charming smile and chocolate boy looks had girls swooning over him ever since he made his debut in 1981. While girls went gaga over Cruise, the actor himself fell head over heels in love-quite a few times. He has dated some extremely talented and beautiful women over the years and with each one, he has had an interesting relationship. Here is a look at women who made Tom’s heart flutter.

Rebecca De Mornay

Tom worked with Rebecca De Mornay in ‘Risky Business’. Rebecca played a prostitute who seduces high school student Tom. The film catapulted Tom to super star status. Tom and Rebecca shared a crackling chemistry on-screen and till date people remember their performance. Off screen- the couple lived in together in New York from 1983-85 before they split.

Cher

Singer Cher has often talked about her fondness for Tom. The singer who has a string of relationships with numerous men in film and music industry was briefly involved with a much younger Tom Cruise in the mid eighties. The relationship, of course, was short lived and separation was amicable.

Mimi Rogers

Tom’s first marriage to Mimi Rogers (six years his senior) changed Tom in many ways. Mimi is known to have introduced Tom to Scientology, a faith which the actor is deeply involved in till date. In fact, the actor’s belief in the sect seemed to have marred his marriage with actress Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. Mimi and Tom were married for three years before the actor moved on to date Nicole Kidman. Later, Mimi stated that the marriage did not last due to lack of physical intimacy. “Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk,” she said. “He thought he had to become celibate.”

They met on the sets of ‘Days of Thunder’ and it was ‘lust’ at first sight for Tom, which eventually evolved into love. During their 10 years of marriage, they were perhaps the most celebrated couple of Hollywood. Post their marriage, both their career moved to Top Gear and both enjoyed superstar status. A headstrong woman, Nicole did not enjoy playing a second fiddle to her actor husband and said she felt ‘burdened being Mrs Tom Cruise’. The couple adopted two kids, Isabel Crusie and Connor Cruise together.

Penelope Cruz

Soon after breaking up with Nicole Kidman, Tom was smitten by Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz. The two met on the sets of ‘Vanilla Sky’ in 2001 and fell in love. The two lived in New York for three years before calling it quits. Both the actors maintained that the split was an amicable one and they remained friends post break up.

Sofia Vergara

‘Modern Family’ star was rumoured to be dating Cruise briefly in 2005. Sofia was introduced to Tom through Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinket Smith at the couple’s residence in Los Angeles. Although, the couple never officially announced their relationship, Tom’s biographer Andrew Morton says that Tom wanted to marry Sofia. This was before he met Katie Holmes.

Speculation was rife about Tom falling in love with Holmes who was 16 years younger than him, for some time. But it was Tom’s ‘jumping on the couch’ act on Oprah Winfrey’s show which put all speculations to rest. Giddy in love, Tom declared his love for Katie on Oprah’s show, much to everyone’s surprise and amusement. Tom proposed to Katie on top of Eiffel Tower in November 2005 and the couple had baby Suri in April 2006. Katie adopted to the church of Scientology in early 2006 before getting married in a lavish ceremony in November 2006 at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy, in a Scientology ceremony attended. From the beginning, many felt, it was an odd couple. She was much junior to Tom and was relatively unknown. Although her sitcom, ‘Dawson Creek’ was a popular show, Katie’s popularity was nowhere close to Tom’s super star status. But Tom wooed Katie in every possible way and it almost looked like a fairytale wedding till Katie filed for a divorce.
