Zeenat Aman’s sizzling performances!

Being the first Indian to win the ‘Miss Asia Pacific’ title in 1970 was just a start of Zeenat Aman’s prolific career. She became first Bollywood actress to revolutionize the sari clad image of an actress to that of a modern woman. It would not be wrong to state that Aman was a trend setter, as she brought an immense change in the portrayal of Indian woman onscreen. On the occasion of her birthday, let’s take a look at some of the memorable performances delivered by the glamorous diva.

Hare Rama Hare Krishna

After giving a unsuccessful performances in ‘Hulchul’ and ‘Hungama’, Aman was ready to bid goodbye to the showbiz world. Had it not been Dev Anand, who offered her one of the most unforgettable roles in ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, Aman’s hidden talent would have remained undiscovered.

One cannot forget Aman – in her hippy avatar in the song ‘Dum Maro Dum’. The oversized glasses clad Aman looked quite convincing in the character ‘Janice’.

Zeenat Aman was the first newcomer to overshadow the then famous star Mumtaz and win accolades for her performance.

She even bagged the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and BFJA Award for Best Actress.

Heera Panna

After ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, Zeenat Aman onec again appeared with Dev Anand in the latter’s movie ‘Heera Panna’. Aman was the first Bollywood heroine to set the temperature soaring by portraying her perfectly sculpted body in a two piece.

She soon became a ‘sex symbol’ and left the audiences in awe with her performance as a thief.

Yaadon Ki Baaraat

In 1973, Zeenat Aman featured as actor Vijay Arora’s love interest in the multi starrer drama film ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’.

Even though she wasn’t the solo lead in the film, she managed to stand out – all thanks to the perfect picturisation of the song –‘Chura Liya…’ on her. This movie gave Aman a never forgetting song, which is still quite popular among the youth.

Satyam Shivam Sundaram

Zeenat Aman was yet to deliver her best, and this opportunity came with Raj Kapoor’s ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’. Aman in a scantily clad saree looked convincing a village damsel. She managed to win the critics, with the best performance of her career.

However, the film didn’t create any ripples at the Box-Office, but Kapoor made a big social leap, when it came to kissing her opposite lead.

Don

Stars come with their ephemeral charm, but in Zeenat Aman’s case it was different, she managed to revive her sinking career with her appreciated role in ‘Don’.

The character of -‘Roma’ played by her didn’t go unnoticed. With this role she proved that even Bollywood actress can do action, and she surpassed the trend of actresses playing timid characters. And with the success of ‘Don’, her career was given a boost.

Insaaf Ka Tarazu

Zeenat Aman left the audience surprised with her performance in B. R. Chopra’s ‘Insaaf Ka Tarazu’. She played the character of a rape victim, who stands strong and seeks justice. She was once again nominated for Filmfare Award for Best Actress. The film based on different plot, was an instant hit. Aman was once again appreciated for her superb performance.
