Classic thriller ‘Khiladi’ made way for industry’s ultimate action hero – Akshay Kumar. Young Akki, a martial arts expert displayed his action skills superbly in the flick combined with exceptional acting talent.
Mohra
Akshay Kumar shared screen with Suniel Shetty and veteran actor Naseerudin Shah in ‘Mohra’. Despite being in a star studded film, Akki proved that he is in the industry for a long innings.
Main Khiladi Tu Anari
The film saw Akki in the role of a police officer seeking revenge for the gruesome murder of his elder brother. The high point of course remained the crackling chemistry between Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar. ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, majorly an action film had some great fight scenes which only Akshay could have justified in the best way.
Dil To Pagal Hai
With ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, viewers came across the lighter side of Akshay. Though primarily a Shah Rukh and Madhuri film, Akshay was nominated for a Filmfare award in the category of Best Supporting actor in the film. Akki won plenty accolades for his role in the film, which paved way for his jovial side yet to be seen in his future films.
Hera Pheri
After a spate of flops which Akki experienced while doing out and out action flicks like ‘Barood’, ‘Aflatoon’, ‘International Khiladi’, Akshay transformed himself into a full on comedian with ‘Hera Pheri’. Akshay’s exceptional comic timing along with Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal added great verve to the film.
Ajnabee
The film saw the actor in the negative shade for the first time. An Abbas Mastan thriller ‘Ajnabee’, proved to be a hit and for his role Akshay won the Filmfare for the category of best villain.
Aankhen
Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Aankhen’ saw Akshay Kumar play the role a blind person who has the power of the ‘sixth sense’. The film was critically acclaimed and Akshay’s acting was immensely appreciated.
Awara Paagal Deewana
Again a comedy flick by Akshay which went to become a big blockbuster. Playing the role of Guru Gulab Khatri, Akshay almost immortalised the character.
Khakee
Yet again sharing screen space with Big B, Akshay shines like a star in the multi-starrer ‘Khakee.’ His role of a corrupt police officer turning good at the climax resulting in the death of his character remains one of his best.
Mujhse Shaadi Karogi
David Dhawan’s ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ was another blockbuster which starred Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. Now a master of comedy, Akki made it evidently clear that he rules in action and comedy.
Waqt: The Race Against Time
Playing the role of the son of a rich father in ‘Waqt: The Race Against Time’, Akshay gave a thumping performance of an emotional son. His action won much appreciation in the film.
Garam Masala
Laugh riot ‘Garam Masala’ went on to convulse one and all to their wits end. Sharing screen space with John Abraham, it was clear that the responsibility to create humour vested on just one actor in the flick and you know who it was!
Namastey London
This film brought out the best in Akshay in many ways. The actor already had achieved mastery in action and comedy, but in this flick his romance with Katrina Kaif was beyond best.
Heyy Babyy
Directed by Akshay’s best buddy Sajid Khan, ‘Heyy Babby’ went on to become one the top grosser of the year. Besides Akshay, ‘Heyy Babyy’ starred Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani.
Welcome
Directed by Anees Bazmi, ‘Welcome’ is another of Akshay Kumar’s best film you just cannot miss. A full on comedy sees Paresh Rawal looking out for a wife for his cousin Akshay in the film, but the eccentricity which the film is replete with leaves Akki to remain a bachelor.
Singh Is Kinng
Akshay Kumar immportaised Happy Singh in ‘Singh Is Kinng’ – a happy go lucky Sikh chap who gets into trouble due to his excessive enthusiasm to help needy and the poor. Akshay’s chemistry with Katrina is worth a dekko!
Blue
Directed by Anthony D’Souza, ‘Blue’ is a high octane action film revolving around an underwater treasure. The film starred Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan and Katrina Kaif and the star attraction of the film was a special appearance by international pop singer Kylie Minogue in the song ‘Chiggy Wiggy.’
Patiala House
Nikhil Advani’s ‘Patiala House’ is a sports film where Akshay plays the role of an obedient NRI son – Gattu, who dreams to make it into the English cricket team but is held back by the love and fear of his father Gurtej Singh Kahlon (Rishi Kapoor). A multi-starrer, Akshay gave a riveting performance in ‘Patiala House.’
