History: Costa Rica entered the World Cup in 1990 and went on to reach the last 16. Since then their both appearances - 2002 and 2006 have been limited to group stages.

Qualifying report: They finished runners-up in the group phase winning all-five home games. They conceded only seven goals, the lowest in the group.

Star Players: Keylor Navas is likely to have a lot to do, but he has had his best season in the domestic circuit. Playing for Levante (Spain) at the club level, he is considered one of the top goalkeepers in the Spanish league. Navas is wanted by many top clubs across Europe and is a phenomenal stopper.

Bryan Ruiz is a creative midfielder and is known for his versatility. He plays for Fulham (England) at the club level. He is the most established Costa Rican player in Europe.
