Building a stadium in Cuiba has been a real challenge to the organisers. This is mainly due to Pantanal, the neighboring region that is full of rich flora and fauna. Hence the underlying theme during the entire process was centered around sustainability, which is why special care had to be taken right from the first day.
The attention to detail during the construction with regards to the sustainability aspect has been impeccable. For instance, wood that was used during the construction of the stadium was sourced from certified providers, the waste generated during the process was recycled, which was used again during the process of building. A procedure for the monitoring of the quality of soil and air was devised. Even the stadium was given a nickname - O Verdao’ (The Big Green)
The stadium offers a multi-purpose facility, which can be diminished in size post the conclusion of the World Cup. It can then be used to host numerous events ranging from exhibitions to trade fairs. Local pubs and clubs have also benefited from the construction of this stadium in the vicinity.
Arena Pantanal is built on the Estadio Jose Fragelli site and has a seating capacity of around 40,000. During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the stadium will host four matches. Following is the list of matches that will be hosted at this venue:
