Group D Analysis

Whichever group England is in, it is the Group of Death. This time it is Group D, which may well spell out as Death. And thankfully, it has also two other former World Cup winners. Having three winners in a group itself is fascinating enough for all to grope the difficulty line.
Italy are the perennial favourites. They have won it four times and never failed to impress in the world stage. Yes, the Azzurri`s have had their share of disappointment, including a first round exit in South Africa four years ago. But in Brazil, Cesare Prandelli will be considered one of the managers who can actually win the cup, mainly thanks to a stable outfit and his acquaintance to their favourite style of play – that of a waiting game. And they have Mario Balotelli. With Super Mario, the tournament has a well knit script.
The second best team, at least on paper, is England. But their larger than life expectations will be the first hurdle for Roy Hodgson`s team. With a line-up which has the likes of Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge, the Three Lions still are one of the teams to beat. What is interesting is that Hodgon`s selection of young players who will look to be fearless and exciting.
Then, the group has two-time champions Uruguay too. Consider the likes of Luiz Suarez and Edinson Cavani lighting up the field, while Diego Forlan coming off from the bench. For the rear-guard action, the Oscar Tabarez has Diego Godin, Sebastian Coates, Martin Caceres ahead of Fernando Muslera.
Thus, the arrival of Costa Rica in Brazil can be rightly termed as a vacation. But with nothing to lose for they will hope to be party poppers.
