History: Greece have qualified for two World Cups - 1994 and 2010. In both editions, they faced an early exit in the group stages. In 1994, they lost all their matches against Argentina, Bulgaria and Nigeria. In 2010, they beat Nigeria but lost to Japan and Argentina. However, they have been successful at the Euro tournaments in the last decade.

Qualifying report: Greece finished second behind Bosnia in Group G. Both teams ended on 25 points but Greece missed out on first place owing to goal-difference. They were seeded for the play-offs and beat Romania 4-2 on aggregate. Konstantinos Mitroglou was the star scoring three goals in the play-offs and helping Greece make the cut.

Star Players: Konstantinos Mitroglou (scored 4 goals in the qualification round) plays for Fulham (England) at club level. He is the first player in Greek history to score a Champions League hat-trick for Olympiacos against Anderlecht. A box-to-box striker, Mitroglou has been instrumental in the turnaround of Greece`s fortunes. Georgios Karagounis is a central midfielder. The 37-year-old player leads Greece and plays for Fulham (England). He has played 132 matches for Greece and his experience gives the side a much-needed vitality in guiding youngsters.

Coach: Fernando Santos - Portuguese coach Fernando Santos, took over from Otto Rehhagel under whom Greece won the Euro 2004 title. Greece qualified for the Euro 2012 quarters under Santos.
