Estadio Beira-Rio stands amid one of the most picturesque settings in Brazil. This stadium is built on the banks of River Guaiba. It is also the home-ground of Internacional. Estadio Beira-Rio is not new to the big occasion as it has already hosted four Copa Libertadores finals. It is the biggest football ground in South Brazil. Official name of this stadium is Estadio Jose Pinheiro Borda and it was inaugurated in 1969.
The process of rebuilding the stadium has taken almost a decade. It even required the help of Internacional fans who contributed to the cause by donating bricks, cement and iron. Some fans just headed to the construction site to cheer and encourage the builders in order to accelerate the process of construction.
A program called Gigante para Sempre” (a giant forever) was launched by the club to build the new stadium. The building cost was borne by Internacional itself. The new stadium is built with the best possible technology, which involved the installation of metal roofs for covering stands, turnstile areas and ramps. The process of stadium construction was sub-divided into several phases.
