Group B Analysis

B
For many, Group B is the Group of Death. It has the finalists from the previous edition and which one tops the group will come down to their head-to-head game. Unlike the 2010 final, wherein the Spanish mid-field outlived the Total football from the Netherlands to steal a late, a late Andres Iniesta winner, this time the clash will see more goals for sure.

One reason is, both the teams have scored plenty of goals during the qualification round and it seemed they carry no inhibition in letting loose their respective front-men. But one important factor which will lead to more goals is – Spain`s over-reliance on an ageing star-cast in the centre and the Netherlands` untested players.

It looks a two-team group, but the presence of Chile will make sure that it has some anxious moments. Chile, after finishing third in their CONMEBOL qualifiers, will look to repeat their 2010 performance by reaching the round of 16 in Brazil. And towards that end, the stars, Alexis Sanchez, Arturo Vidal and Mauricio Isla will lead a stable and fighting squad. In such a case, one of the favourites will go home early.

So, Australia are the fourth team left in the group. Nothing much to write about the squad considering the quality and panache other teams possess. But the Socceroos, as a Asian powerhouse, will have plenty to play for and will look to be fearless against the biggies.
