Ghanaian defender Akaminko out of World Cup
Accra: Ghanaian central defender Jerry Akaminko will miss the World Cup finals after breaking his left ankle during Saturday`s friendly with the Netherlands, the Ghanaian football federation announced on Sunday.

The 26-year-old, who plays his club football for Eskisehirspor in Turkey, broke his ankle in the third minute of time added on in the match in Rotterdam which Ghana lost 1-0.

Akaminko is due to be sidelined for at least three months.

Ghana, quarter-finalists in the 2010 World Cup, have been drawn in a tough Group G along with one of the tournament favourites Germany, Cristiano Ronaldo-led Portugal and the United States.

They begin their campaign in Brazil on June 16 against the Jurgen Klinsmann-coached Americans in Natal.
